Privacy

Short version: the calculator and picker never send your figures anywhere, there are no advertising cookies, and the only personal data held is an email address – and only if you hand one over.

Who is responsible for your data

This site is operated by MTD Calculator, who is the data controller for the purposes of UK GDPR. For anything to do with your data – a copy of it, a correction, deletion, or a complaint – email or use the contact form.

The calculator and picker send nothing

Both run entirely in your browser. Your rents, ownership split and self-employment turnover are never transmitted to us or to anyone else – they live only in the page’s web address, which is what lets you share or bookmark a result. Close the tab and they’re gone. We never see them.

Analytics

We use Umami to count page views, to see which pages are useful, and to count two things we act on: how many people click through to a software provider, and how many join the email list. It is cookieless, stores no personal data, doesn’t track you across other websites and doesn’t build a profile of you. That’s why there’s no cookie banner here – there is nothing to consent to.

If you join the email list

Signing up sends three things to MailerLite, our email provider, who process them on our behalf: your email address, the year you told us you’re mandated (so we only send you relevant things), and which page you signed up from.

• Lawful basis: your consent, given by double opt-in – we send a confirmation link and nothing further unless you click it.
• Unsubscribing: one click in any email, at any time. We keep your details only for as long as you want to hear from us.
• Where it goes: MailerLite is our processor. We don’t sell, rent or share your address with anyone else – including the software providers we compare.

If you use the contact form

The form sends your name (optional), email address and message to our own inbox so we can reply. Two providers are involved: Cloudflare, which hosts the site and runs Turnstile – a privacy-preserving anti-spam check that processes your IP address to confirm you’re not a bot, and sets no tracking cookies – and Resend, which delivers the message to us.

Lawful basis: legitimate interest in answering enquiries. Your address is used only to reply and is never added to the mailing list. Say the word and we delete the correspondence.

Hosting and server logs

The site is static and hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any host, Cloudflare processes technical request data (including IP addresses) to serve pages and block attacks. We don’t have access to an analytics-style log of who visited what.

Links out to software providers

When you click through to a provider, you’re on their site under their privacy terms, and they may set their own cookies. We add a tag to the link so we can tell which recommendations are useful – it never contains anything personal about you.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to processing, or withdraw consent at any time. Email and we’ll act on it. If you think we’ve got it wrong, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
